Our Mission
Eighty percent of a child’s waking hours are spent outside the classroom, and yet we continue to rely on the school day as the only place to prepare our youth for strong futures. Students who participate in out of school time (OST) programs attend class more regularly, do better in school, and develop social-emotional skills vital for today’s world and economy. High-quality OST programs accelerate academic progress, nurture peer and mentor relationships, and promote individualized exploration of interests and talents that lead to success in the classroom, career, and beyond.
OST is essential to the functioning ecosystem of support necessary to see the whole child development we expect for our kids.
The Texas Partnership for Out of School Time (TXPOST) is a statewide intermediary whose mission is to convene, educate, and advocate to improve the quality and increase the availability of out of school time (OST) opportunities for Texas youth.
The Texas Partnership for Out of School Time (TXPOST) is a statewide intermediary whose mission is to convene, educate, and advocate to improve the quality and increase the availability of out of school time (OST) opportunities for Texas youth.
As of 2020, only 20% of school-age kids in Texas participate in summer programs and only 15% participate in afterschool programs, both of which provide more learning opportunities and drive equity in a system that often fails to adequately serve those most in need.
For every child in Texas enrolled in an out of school time program, 3 more are waiting to get in. TXPOST believes that all Texas youth deserve the opportunity to participate in high-quality afterschool, summer, and expanded learning programs for fulfilling futures. TXPOST convenes, educates, and advocates to improve the quality and increase the availability of out of school time programs for kids in Texas. Learn more about what we do to advance our mission.
