The Texas Partnership for Out of School Time (TXPOST) is a statewide intermediary whose mission is to convene, educate, and advocate to improve the quality and increase the availability of out of school time (OST) opportunities for Texas youth.

Director of External Relations

Location: Austin preferred; Texas statewide considered

The Opportunity

TXPOST is in search of a Director of External Relations to lead TXPOST’s communications and fundraising efforts and foster key partnerships to support the organization’s work. The Director of External Relations will work closely with the CEO and COO to develop and implement cohesive communications and fundraising strategies to support programmatic areas of work, OST program initiatives, and organizational goals and act as the liaison between our organization and the public. This role is hybrid/primarily remote with occasional travel within Texas and reports to the CEO.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

Strategic Planning & Execution

  • Develop and implement cohesive communications and fundraising strategies in partnership with the CEO and COO to support organizational goals and sustainability
  • Develop and employ appropriate metrics to measure, report on, and continuously improve strategies and approaches
  • Co-manage organizational Salesforce CRM with the COO in support of strategic operations, including maintaining and updating partner records, tracking fundraising goals, managing myTXPOST virtual community, collecting and importing data, and building out systems and reports

Content Management

  • Create and adapt content—both written copy and graphic design—for the TXPOST website, email newsletter, social media, myTXPOST virtual community, toolkits, videos, events, webinars, meetings, and other digital and print materials
  • Manage consultants and/or interns in support of specialized areas (e.g., graphic design) above, as needed
  • Manage TXPOST’s brand and public presence across all platforms

Fundraising Management

  • Work in partnership with the CEO to diversify and strengthen TXPOST’s fundraising portfolio, including individual donors, foundations, corporations, and public funders
  • Identify philanthropic funding opportunities and write engaging and effective grant proposals; oversee all activities related to grants awarded to TXPOST and complete reporting and compliance requirements
  • Identify, cultivate, and solicit new, existing, and lapsed individual donors; manage effective fundraising campaigns and direct communications
  • Collaborate with the leadership team to manage, sustain, and expand public funding for TXPOST through supporting advocacy efforts and contributing to all activities related to grants administered by TXPOST, such as identification of grant recipients, distribution of funds, and reporting
  • Develop revenue-generating opportunities for additional, future fee-for-service initiatives, with support from the CEO and leadership team as needed

Partnership Management

  • Develop, steward, and sustain strategic relationships with funders, TXPOST’s Board of Directors, and other key partners/stakeholders
  • Support the Director of Programs and the Quality and Program Initiatives Manager in building, maintaining, and growing partnerships with OST direct service programs and intermediaries; support and contribute to content production and promotion for all OST provider offerings, including professional development, technical assistance, and resources
Preferred Qualifications
  • At least 4-6 years of relevant experience; familiarity with out of school time, afterschool, summer, or youth development programming and public education preferred
  • A deep commitment to TXPOST’s mission of convening, educating, and advocating to improve the quality and increase the availability of out of school time opportunities for Texas youth
  • An ability to balance big-picture strategy with thoughtful execution; a proven record of achieving goals through strong planning and implementation skills
  • Excellent writing and editing skills; demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and effectively
  • A proven track record of generating revenue for mission-driven organizations
  • Strong project management skills, including the ability to prioritize, coupled with a solutions mindset and a positive attitude
  • Experience establishing and maintaining positive interpersonal relations with diverse partners and stakeholders, especially funders and supporters
  • Knowledge of or familiarity with relevant communications and technology applications (e.g., Asana, social media platforms)
Compensation

This is a full-time position. The salary range is $75,000–90,000 per year based on qualifications and experience. This position is eligible for TXPOST’s medical, dental, and vision insurance coverage (50% paid by TXPOST), 403(b) retirement plan, and paid time off benefits.
