Troy Sanders began working as the STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) afterschool expansion VISTA for TXPOST in July of 2016. Before working with us, Troy was highly active in his community doing volunteer work for organizations such as Beans and Rice Inc. where he aided their food justice programs and tutored science, his local hospital where he served as a patient advocate, the Immokaleee Coalition for immigrant workers where he worked for immigrants’ rights, and previously worked as an AmeriCorps summer VISTA for Lincoln, Nebraska’s public schools where he tutored elementary school students in science.
In the spring of 2016, Troy received a bachelor’s degree in Chemistry with a minor in Biology from Western New England University in Springfield, MA. His degree will help him understand what partnerships would be valuable to TXPOST for developing a wide array of STEM programs. In the fall of next year, Troy intends to pursue a medical degree to provide healthcare for underprivileged families.
