Project Administrator, Austin ISD 21st Century Community Learning Centers
Shirlene Justice has over seventeen years experience managing afterschool programs. She recently retired from serving as the Project Administrator for the Austin Independent School district’s 21st Century Grant program where over 6,000 young people are served in twenty-five schools.
Shirlene started her career in education as a volunteer parent in the Austin school system. She taught middle school before returning to school to get her Masters of Public Affairs with a focus on Education Policy. She worked as a coordinator of Adult Education when the National community Education Association recognized her program as the Outstanding Multicultural Leadership Program in 2003. Shirlene was a 2006 YWCA Woman of the Year recipient in Education. In 2008, The Central Texas Afterschool Network honored Shirlene by presenting her with the Leadership Legacy award to recognize her work in promoting high quality afterschool programs and building collaborative partnerships.
Shirlene is a founding member of the Central Texas Afterschool Network (CTAN) and the Texas Partnership for Out of School Time where she serves as board president.
